Honda Civic 2010 Details

The 2010 Honda Civic lineup has its bases covered with technologically advanced Civic Sedan and Coupe models, a Civic Hybrid, a high-performance Civic Si and a dedicated natural gas-powered Civic GX. All Civics were recently enhanced inside and out for the 2009 model year with new exterior styling, colors and increased availability of tech-friendly features. For 2010, the entire range of Civics remains largely unchanged.
Enhancements carried over from 2009 include recently refreshed exterior and interior styling features comprised of updated headlight and taillight combinations; new alloy wheel designs for Civic EX, Civic EX-L and Civic Si; and updated seating cloth materials for a more premium interior feel.

“The Honda Civic meets the needs of a diverse audience with economical and fun-to-drive performance in a wide variety of choices and styles,” said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of product planning for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “The Civic’s reputation for durability, quality and reliability helps it stand apart from the crowd.”

Built on a high-rigidity unit-body platform, the Civic is designed to deliver precise, sharp and refined handling performance with its MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension.

Four engine and four transmission choices range from a 140-horsepower, 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine (Civic DX, DX-VP, LX, EX and EX-L), with either a 5-speed manual or an available 5-speed automatic transmission, to a 197-horsepower, 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine (Civic Si) with a 6-speed manual transmission. The Civic Hybrid is powered by a 1.3-liter i-VTEC engine with Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) gasoline-electric hybrid technology to enhance both fuel economy and performance, and is equipped with a continuously variable transmission.

The Civic GX is powered by a dedicated natural gas version of the Civic’s 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine – and is equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Both Civic Hybrid and Civic GX are classified as Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicles (AT-PZEV) by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The Civic GX is classified by the EPA as an Inherently Low Emissions Vehicle (ILEV).

The entire line-up maintains a standard array of safety technologies including Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure; side curtain airbags; driver’s and front passenger’s side airbags with a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); and dual-stage, dual-threshold driver’s and front passenger’s airbags (SRS). Active front seat head restraints are designed to help reduce the likelihood of neck injury in the event of a rear collision.

Standard active safety features include an anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic brake distribution, front seatbelts with an automatic tensioning system, and a pedestrian injury mitigation design incorporated into the front exterior of the vehicle. Driver and front passenger seatbelt reminders and daytime running lights are also standard equipment. The Civic EX-L, Civic Si and Civic Hybrid include Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), commonly referred to as electronic stability control, as standard safety content.
The Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System, available on Civic EX, EX-L, Si and Hybrid models, has a

6.5-inch motorized display that opens and closes for access to the internal single-disc CD player, and a digital audio-card reader that can play MP3 and Windows Media® Audio (WMA) files from CompactFlash® cards (via a PC card adapter).

The navigation system features more than 7 million points of interest and the voice activation can control the navigation menus and the audio system, along with entering city and street names. The system includes Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink®, a wireless telephone interface that works with compatible Bluetooth-enabled mobile telephones for hands-free operation via steering wheel-mounted controls.

Auxiliary audio input jacks are standard equipment on Civic DX-VP and above trim levels, allowing for portable music device playback through the audio system. The Civic LX Coupe has a six-speaker 160-watt audio system with a CD player (four speakers for the DX-VP and LX sedan). All audio systems are capable of playing MP3- and WMA-formatted CDs. Standard Speed-sensitive Volume Control (SVC) automatically adjusts the volume based on vehicle speed. Audio displays include CD/MP3 text readout, and all coupes (except for the DX) plus the Civic Si Sedan provide a customizable welcome screen (exclusively on models without the available navigation system).

Civic Sedan and Civic Coupe with 1.8-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine
The Civic lineup for both the Sedan and Coupe start with the value-rich Civic DX model equipped with a standard 140-horsepower, 1.8-liter, SOHC i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine, 5-speed manual transmission (5-speed automatic available), power windows, 15-inch steel wheels with covers and P195/65R15 tires, and a folding rear seat. The Civic DX-VP Sedan adds air conditioning, a four-speaker 160-watt AM/FM Audio System with CD player (MP3/WMA enabled), and an auxiliary audio input jack.
The Civic LX adds or upgrades: cruise control, power door locks, 16-inch steel wheels with covers, P205/55R16 tires, keyless entry, center console with sliding armrest, progressive blue illumination instrument panel meters, auto up and down driver’s power window, and a folding rear seat.
The Civic LX-S Sedan adds or upgrades: alloy wheels, LX-S-exclusive sport-trimmed black cloth seats with synthetic suede bolsters and silver stitching, LX-S-exclusive leather-wrapped steering wheel, LX-S-exclusive rear-deck spoiler, and a chrome exhaust finisher.

The Civic EX Sedan and Coupe adds or upgrades: a one-touch power moonroof, a 60/40 split folding rear seat, ambient console lighting, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and the availability of the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with Voice Activation, which also includes XM Satellite Radio.
The Civic EX-L adds or upgrades: leather-trimmed seating surfaces, console, steering wheel and shift knob; heated seats; and heated door mirrors. The Civic EX Coupe and EX-L Coupe exclusively feature a 7-speaker with subwoofer AM/FM audio system with CD player (MP3/WMA enabled).

Civic Si Sedan and Coupe (2.0-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine)
The Civic Si Sedan and Coupe serve as the performance cornerstone for the Civic lineup with a 197-horsepower, 16-valve, DOHC, 2.0 liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine mated to a close-ratio, 6-speed manual transmission. A helical-type, limited-slip differential enhances traction in high-performance driving situations. The Civic Si’s sport-tuned suspension adds firm spring, damper and stabilizer bar tuning along with exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels and high-performance tires. Exclusive exterior features include a rear wing spoiler (low profile on the sedan) and Si emblems. The sports-oriented interior adds firmly-bolstered and performance oriented sport-trimmed black cloth seats with synthetic suede bolsters and red stitching. For 2010, the only cosmetic change to the Civic Si is the color of the engine cover switching from silver to black.

Civic Hybrid (1.3-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine with IMA)
The Civic Hybrid with advanced Integrated Motor Assist IMA® hybrid technology achieves an EPA-estimated city/highway fuel economy of 40/45 miles per gallon and includes Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and an available leather-trimmed interior with heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and heated side mirrors. The Civic Hybrid is certified by the California Air Resource Board (CARB) as an Advanced-Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV). A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is standard equipment.

The Civic Hybrid can deactivate all four of its cylinders and operate using only the electric motor in certain low-speed cruising situations. Power for the Civic Hybrid is provided by a 1.3-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine and a 15 kilowatt electric motor, producing a combined 110-horsepower @ 6000 rpm and combined 123 lb-ft. of torque @ 1000-2500 rpm.

Civic GX (1.8-liter i-VTEC engine, dedicated natural gas vehicle)
The ultra-clean Civic GX produces near zero emissions and enables owners to become eligible for a $4,000 federal tax credit. The 2010 Civic GX is the only dedicated natural gas-powered passenger car available to retail customers in the United States and achieves an EPA estimated city/highway fuel economy of 24/36 miles per gasoline-gallon5. Currently, natural gas is approximately 35 percent less expensive than gasoline when purchased at a refueling station. The Civic GX is the only vehicle certified by the EPA to meet both Federal Tier 2-Bin 2 and Inherently Low Emission Vehicle (ILEV) zero evaporative emission certification standards. The Civic GX is available to consumers at qualified Honda dealers in the states of California, Utah and New York and is also available to fleet customers nationwide from qualified Honda dealers.

Manufacturing
The majority of Civics sold in the United States are produced and assembled in the United States and Canada using domestic and globally sourced parts. All Civic Coupe and Civic Si models are solely produced and assembled at the Honda of Canada Manufacturing plant in Alliston, Ontario, along with the Civic Sedan. Honda Manufacturing of Indiana in Greensburg, Indiana, also produces the Civic Sedan. Civic Hybrid models are produced and assembled in the Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Suzuka, Japan, manufacturing facility.

Why There Is No Camera In the iPod Touch?

I don't expect Apple to deliver on rumors. After all, most rumors are crap, even John Gruber's iPod touch camera prediction. But that doesn't stop me from asking questions: Why the hell there is no camera on the iPod touch?

No Space: The iPod touch is much thinner than the iPhone. There is not a lot of empty space in there, so maybe this is a technical decision. Perhaps Apple couldn't find a part that could fit in the current case, and they didn't want to alter the touch's physical dimensions. But then again, if the minuscule iPod nano can get a camera, why not the touch? Perhaps it's because the nano got a pretty weak camera.

Features Mix: Apple could possibly have fit the iPod nano camera in the iPod touch, and kept the price. After all, it's a super-tiny, ultra-cheap VGA camera. But maybe that acronym the key: It's VGA. Low resolution. The nano doesn't even do still photography because it will look like crap—video is more forgiving. People buying the iPod touch would be expecting a lot more. I know I would. So while there's the possibility of a camera in the iPod touch, perhaps is not the camera Apple thinks would be right for it—namely, the iPhone's camera.

Technical Difficulties: This was one of the late-minute rumors: Apple had technical difficulties during manufacturing, so the rumor said the iPod touch—with camera—was going to be delayed. If that was the case, Apple would have just announced the iPod touch with camera, and get it to the stores later. However, the iPod touch without camera is here, available immediately, which means that they have been churning them out the factory for a long long time. It doesn't seem like a last minute change of plans to me.

Pricing Issues: Apple wanted to have a $199 iPod touch, and keep the prices of the bigger units while increasing capacity. This sounds more reasonable than the technical excuses. The 8GB version, however, is just the old one, which is being manufactured like always to get that "low" price. No camera could be added to it, unless Apple wanted to sacrifice on the price front. Only the 32 and 64GB versions have internal hardware modifications. But would Apple have an iPod touch with camera and one without? Seems unlikely for a company obsessed with uniformity and streamlining.

Market Segmentation: Here things get more interesting. Apple said they wanted to compete with the Flip, which is a sub-$150 device. It's almost impossible to get the iPod touch to that price level while keeping the large touchscreen, the wireless capabilities, and the strong processing guts that the iPhone OS needs. Not right at these prices—at least, not without affecting their profit margins negatively. The iPod nano, however, can fit the Flip competition role nicely. This is a probable explanation.

iPhone Cannibalization: The other explanation is cannibalization. This is a good one too. Add a camera to the iPod touch and, boom, the iPhone loses yet another advantage over its lesser brother. So maybe putting the iPhone's camera into the iPod touch is feasible. Apple may just be protecting the market for the iPhone.

Feature Evolution: This, to me, is the most reasonable explanation. Apple is getting oh-so-lazy. Or, better said, greedy. They are the number one player in every single category. They own the market. And they know the competition is just catching on. So instead of releasing an iPhone that is way better than the previous model, they release the modest upgrade of the iPhone 3GS. And instead of releasing an iPod touch with a nice camera, they just slap some new software, slightly updated guts and more memory.

That's what you get when a company owns an empire, and the other tiny people are trying to catch up with an already phenomenal device. The company gets slow and complacent, and does the minimum to keep its products ahead.

So no, I don't expect Apple to deliver on rumors. But it pisses me off that they don't do their best every single time. That they get boring and lazy. And yes, perhaps it's not in their best economic interest to release insanely great products in every single update, but the lack of camera on the iPod touch is sure going to be a letdown for a huge number of people.

Some other people won't agree. Some cheerleaders would even go onto their soap boxes, saying that "Apple is firing on all cylinders." Maybe they are. It's just that they left the Porsche GT2 at home, and they are now driving an old Mini.

Archos Gen-6 5G PMP Technical Specifications

Archos just revealed what that curtain tease was all about: the 6th Gen Archos 5, 5G and 7 series PMPs. The 4.8" flagship 5G ditches the tired interface and buttons of the Gen-5 device for a slick UI and touchscreen-only operation. It's got Wi-Fi, HD video support, web browsing, email, a huge HDD (up to 250GB), and built-in HSPDA 3G connectivity. It's also got dock connectors, GPS, DVR, video/audio recording and more. In short, it's everything that the iPod touch isn't, and I got to touch it.

The interface on the 5G is incredibly smooth, scrolling is similar to the iPod touch, and the included Opera web browser does zoom and looks excellent. The device is intuitive and the touchscreen is responsive and big enough to really enjoy movie watching.

The 5 and 7 are also great devices, featuring 4.8" and 7" displays, respectively. They are 3G capable with a separate dongle, and otherwise feature all the great specs of the 5G. The 5 will be available in 60-, 120-, and 250GB varieties, while the 7 carries either 160GB or 320GB under the hood. The products will retail between $350 and $550 when they arrive in September (5), October (7) and January (5G). It's a good day for the little portable-media underdog. Spec sheet down below.

Archos 5 Android Internet Tablet photo

Archos_5_android

Looking much more polished and sleek than when it was captured by the FCC cameras last week, the upcoming Android-based Archos 5 Internet Tablet that will be formally announced on September 15th has recently appeared in glossy press shot form on B&H Photo Video in both HDD (160GB, 500GB) and SSD (16GB, 32GB) varieties. Prices, before they were removed, ranged between $293.95 and $419.95 and of course shouldn't be considered final or official until confirmed by Archos.

Assuming these are the real prices and all the previously reported specs still hold true, will you be spending your gadget allowance on this? It's obviously still too early to pass judgment, but so far my current non-Android Archos 5 isn't in danger of being replaced. Thoughts?

Toshiba unveils JournE touch multimedia tablet

Toshiba_journe_touch

Forget about your pockets. Toshiba is coming after your house with its upcoming JournE touch multimedia tablet.

Unveiled today at IFA 2009 in Berlin, the 7.4" x 5.3" x 0.55" slate runs a customizable finger-friendly user interface on top of Windows CE 6.0 Pro and is strictly designed for home use, even though its lithium-polymer battery is estimated to run for up to 14 hours on a single charge and it supports 3G USB modems. Tipping the scales at just under a pound (15.87 ounces), the JournE touch features a 7" LED-backlit touchscreen (16:9, WVGA), 1GB of internal memory, an SD card slot for up to an additional 32GB of storage, WiFi, instant-on, HD output, and video on demand.

A device designed for couch surfing and kitchen counter/coffee table use isn't new, but what could take the JournE touch to the next level is that Toshiba is reportedly "hard at work on an app store for the media tablet." Assuming it's done well, attracts quality developers, and is easy for consumers to use, this has the potential to become the non-Apple version of the long-rumored giant iPod touch or Mac tablet.

Toshiba_journe_touch_cradle

Too bad plans for a release in the US haven't been mentioned yet. All that's known about availability so far is that it's expected to retail for €249 (~$355) "via selected resellers in Europe, Middle East and Africa" in Q4 of this year.

ITRI shows off Android-based WiMAX PID

Itri_android_wimax_pid

Rather than follow in the footsteps of those who have managed to create stylish MIDs, Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) is blazing its own trail with an unattractive PID, or personal internet device.

ITRI, who made headlines last year with its 5-inch folding TFT-EFD screen, describes the PID as a "mobile multimedia device with high definition video capability" and demonstrated it downloading videos, browsing the internet, and playing games at an event held last week. Developed to show off how its MIMO WiMAX chips work in harmony with ARM microprocessors and a version of Android the company spent almost a year tweaking/optimizing, the device is expected to retail for less than $250 whenever it goes into production.

Nokia Maemo5 Mobile seems like N900

Maemo_5_n900

I don't think there was really ever any doubt that Maemo 5 (and beyond) would be used on more than just the Nokia N900, but it's still nice to hear from Nokia Nseries VP Jonas Geust that the company's future plans include launching additional Maemo-based MIDs for the high-end market while continuing to release Symbian units for the mass market.

It isn't clear whether all of these upcoming MIDs will feature cellular phone functions, but with Maemo being about the "internet first" and providing a "true computer experience in small package," it seems reasonable to assume that a non-phone version of the N900 with a larger screen may not be just a pipe dream. And I know I'm not alone is saying that I would buy something like that in a heartbeat.

The name should be N97m maemo!!!!

If you take a look on previous N version (770, 800, 810, 810w) everybody was expect to see the N820 or N900 as previous version with a better screen at least 4.3".

The launch the N900 with almost the same specs as N97 (just small changes like: screen resolution, OS, CPU).

I think as you said the markets can benefit from this but please do not say that the N900 is the upgrade for the N810 that does not make sense at all.

The N900 is a maemo version for the N97, I will also add on the top of that the N900 is a downgrade from N97.

I do not think us customers deserve that kind of behaviour from Nokia. We can not accept that product as the N900, I would like to see Nokia correcting that as N something else then use N900.

The N97 it was announced last year November 2008.

*Keybord

*3.5" screen size

*5MP camera

*32 GB storage

*ARM 11 434 MHz processor

The technology improves every day (better processor, more memory, more resolution and for sure a cheaper cost for the Industry) that goes very fast 6 months is already a time for totally different technology appear but for Nokia took like:
**Compare with N810 took 24 months
**Compare with N97 took 10 months later almost an year for launch N900: (with similar specs that is ridiculous)

*Keybord

*3.5" screen size (why not 4.1", 4.2" or 4.3" the previous Internet Tablet N810 has a screen with 4.13" and if you have the old N810 you will that they have enough space to increase the screen withou change the final size of the device)

*5MP camera (Nokia has N86 with 8MP)

*32 GB storage (why not 64GB)

*ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz (That improvement is nothing just check Toshiba TG01 with 1GHz)

But what is more serious is us as customer agree with that scenario and buy the N900.

We have the power to change that we can not invest in that device. We know that they can do better but they want our money that is not fair. We know that they have the technology they just want to start very basic then increase with the time but 10 months early they launch very similar product we do not deserve that.

Is very clear to see the downgrade.

Kohjinsha New PC

Kohjinsha_pm

More commonly associated with convertible UMPCs like the SC3 series, Kohjinsha has decided to forgo the swiveling touchscreen this time around with its new PM series, a compact clamshell that is really nothing more than a rebranded version of one of the lower spec'd UMID mbook M1 devices. All that Kohjinsha is offering for 59,800 yen (~$643), then, is a 1.1GHz Intel Atom processor, 512MB RAM, 16GB SSD, Windows XP, 4.8-inch WSVGA touchscreen, and 1.3-megapixel webcam.

Yeah, compared to the 1.3GHz CPU, 32GB SSD, built-in 3G, and matte black casing you can get under the UMID brand instead, there isn't a whole lot to get excited about here.
