Ridgeline W200 wearable computer

Just when you thought computers could not get any smaller than netbooks that are proliferating the market at this point in time, along comes Glacier Computer and their Ridgeline W200 wearable computer. Of course, you need not expect this to function as well as a netbook for obvious reasons, but it is interesting to see whether such a device has a place in today’s world of gadgets. After all, there are already tons of smartphones out there which function as mini-computers of sort, keeping track of your Word documents and Excel spreadsheets, connecting to the Internet with a much larger display than the W200 while sporting a relatively speedy processor. Let’s take a closer look at what this Windows CE-powered W200 has to offer right after the jump.

According to Glacier, the Ridgeline W200 is not meant to be used as a mainstream computing device, but rather will target emergency services, security, defense, and field logistics applications. It was meant to keep both hands of a user free, hence the wrist-mounted computer design that further saves battery power by automatically entering standby whenever it is being hung down alongside the body. Glacier also mentioned that the Ridgeline W200 will offer “continuous connectivity regardless of the user’s location” courtesy of its Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity options. This device tips the scales at 10.2 ounces and will come with 3.5″ touchscreen display accompanied by 11 backlit keys.

Underneath the hood, you will find the W200 wrist computer powered by a Marvell PXA270 400MHz processor, 128MB RAM and 1.2GB of internal memory (now that’s a pretty weird number, don’t you think?), a 3.5″ touchscreen display at 320 x 240 resolution, USB 1.1 connectivity (bummer - who uses USB 1.1 devices these days anyways?) and a tough exterior that allows it to function in a temperature range of -10 to 50 degrees Celsius. No idea on when the Ridgeline W200 will be released nor how much it will cost though.

Electric shocking Mouse

I realize that I am a week late with April Fool’s Day, but I suppose any time is good for a practical joke. Especially one that involves electricity. Yes, it is easy to go overboard with electricity when you are doing a practical joke, like the Joker did in Tim Burton’s first Batman film.

Provided that you don’t want to kill your enemy, the Electric Shocking Mouse might be the best way to bring aggravation. Apparently, it will give a jolt that will not harm or hurt, but just enough of a shock to make everyone laugh.

I don’t know what the power source is on this guy. I’ve always wondered if you could shock someone through USB power, but this particular shocking mouse is wireless.

Now, the problem that I have with this product is that the desired prank might be difficult to pull off. I’m not certain if this mouse could pass as the victim’s mouse. In other words, that could be a pause for suspicion right there that could spoil the gag. However, some people, like myself, just reach for their mouse without even looking.

So this is how you pull off this gag on a co-worker, just say: “hey, did you get the e-mail saying that our paycheck will be one month late?” The co-worker will panic and grab his or her mouse to check for this terrifying e-mail, and receive a great shock.

Fortunately, the price of this gag is probably worth the price of the joke. You should be able to purchase this at the Sourcing Map for about $5.99.

Circulation Improving Seat Cushion

Most of us are office drones these days - a far cry from our forefathers where they had to settle for backbreaking work on the farm or at the factory. This time round, we are often seated for hours on end in the office before packing our stuff and heading off for a short lunch break before we return to the boring monotony at the office. Enter the Circulation Improving Seat Cushion that ought to ease your burden somewhat.

This alternate-pressure inflating seat cushion stimulates circulation and alleviates pressure points in your posterior and legs. Made by a company that supplies the same technology to the U.S. Air Force, the unit’s twelve integrated air bags inflate and deflate intermittently, stimulating blood circulation through areas of soft tissue that receive insufficient blood flow during prolonged sitting. The 12-minute, four-step sequence disperses weight evenly across your posterior, relieving point-of-contact pressure and helping to prevent blood vessel and capillary constriction that can lead to pressure sores. Ideal for long flights and road trips, those with sedentary jobs, or someone who is wheelchair bound, the cushion fits in nearly any chair. The cushion’s rechargeable battery lasts for 48 hours after a two-hour charge (AC adapter included).

No idea whether the boss/finance department would approve $299.95 to bring this to your office though considering the current economic climate.

Resident Evil 5 Chainsaw Flash Drive

Whether you’re a gamer or not, I’m sure most people will enjoy this zombie themed flash drive. It was originally bundled with the very pricey Resident Evil 5 for the Xbox 360. Of course, not everyone that bought the bundle wanted to hang onto the limited edition flash drive. So instead of storing their own files on the drive they’re posting them on eBay. Frankly, I’m not sure why anyone would want to get rid of the chainsaw, but that makes it better for the rest of us.

That works out perfectly for those that can’t afford the limited edition $100 bundle. The bundle itself would likely be worth the price since it also includes a 3 DVD feature about the making of the game. It’s hard saying what people will post their drive for on eBay, but likely they’ll stick within the same price range as this one. At least one has already been posted for a decent price. You can find the 2GB drive for $22 on eBay.

LG Arena's Titan Black Mobile

lg-arena-tmob

LG’s Arena cell phone has been out for quite some time already, but this time round T-Mobile will be rolling it out in a new Titan Black edition which will be available as an exclusive and only on T-Mobile tariffs. Also known by its model number the LG KM900, this handset will feature the exact specifications as found on the original silver edition, as the only change would be the exterior case, although calling it Titan Black might not do the color justice as the exterior case leans more towards a gun metal finish. The black color will also do its part in setting the handset apart from many other silver cell phones that have proliferated the market, giving business-minded folks yet another option to consider when it comes to upgrading their cell phone.

Just to recap in case you have forgotten what the LG Arena has on offer, this T-Mobile exclusive will boast the latest 3D S Class user interface that places it closer to iPhone territory instead of the traditional directional button method. When booted up, you will be able to access just about all of its menu via a rotating 3D cube which displays multiple sides and various options to choose from. These menus are specially positioned in the form of a film reel, offering a proper understanding and selection of icons. All you need are your fingertips to scroll and drag selected items on the screen, where the 3″ touchscreen display excels (although it still won’t be able to beat an iPhone judging by the numerous reviews online).

The Titan Black LG Arena is already available from a variety of bundles to choose from, and depending on the type of contract you sign up with, the cell phone itself could cost anywhere from free to £244.67.

3K Computer releases RazorBook 400 CE

3k-razorbook1Netbooks seem to be all the rage these days, and just when we think that netbooks are the lowest common denominator when it comes to a decent computing device for use on-the-go, along comes 3K Computer and their new Windows CE-powered netbook which will definitely attract plenty of attention with a price point of a mere $150. Dubbed the RazorBook 400 CE, you will get a bare bones configuration which makes this much less underpowered compared to even the original Eee PC 701 which was released quite a while back, but still able to keep you connected online for extremely casual web browsing, email checking and making the odd VoIP call from time to time.

What’s the whole point of a Windows CE-based netbook anyways? Well, this isn’t exactly an new idea but is a resurrection of an old one. Apparently, it was nearly a decade ago (nine years to be exact) when IBM rolled out its Workpad z50 which was powered by Windows CE 3.0, featuring a styling cue from their Thinkpad line of business notebooks alongside a 131MHz MIPS 4100 processor, solid state storage and a phenomenal battery life of up to eight hours. Fast forward nine years and we have 3K’s RazorBook 400 CE that is an upgrade over the RazorBook which debuted last June, featuring a familiar Windows user interface as found in Windows CE 5.0 while boasting Microsoft Internet Explorer, RDP (remote desktop protocol) client, Skype, and Windows Media Player alongside Adobe Flash support.

It will be powered by the Ingenic 400MHz 32-bit single-core mobile processor, come with 128MB RAM and 4GB flash memory, a 7″ WVGA TFT LCD display, Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity, a trio of USB 2.0 ports, an SD memory card reader and a measly 2-cell 2100mAh battery. No idea on how long this can run with all the options turned on before it requires a trip to the nearest power outlet though.

iLuv portable speakers get colors

iluvcases

If you need some shiny new portable speakers to go with your iPod or MP3 player, iLuv has these brightly colored ones. Just in time for spring you can find these speakers in an assortment of colors to suit anyone. They offer from the overly feminine to the neutral colors for those that don’t really want any of that color nonsense mucking up their speakers. The only thing they’re missing are the bright but not girly colors, like red or blue.

The iSP100 speakers are portable enough to take with you anywhere you like. Be it while you’re out and about or just while you’re going from room to room cleaning house. The speakers include 720-degree surround sound 4W speakers and of course the necessary 3.5mm jack. That jack makes it so that you can use it with any music player. They run on three AAA batteries and it comes with a carrying case to protect from scuffs. You can pick one up for $34.99 in purple, pink, black or gray.

QiGi's AK007 cell phone for Chinese police

qigi-ak007We all know that police as well as other authorities often have their own versions of devices and gadgets, presumably allowing them to nab lawbreakers with added efficiency. Apart from rugged laptops, here we are with QiGi Future Technology’s AK007 cell phone. No idea whether the 007 code at the second half of the device name has anything to do with paying homage to the world’s most famous fictional secret agent or not, but it does have a nice ring to it. This handset will be tough as nails to cater to a police’s everyday line of work, featuring a 2.8″ display at 320 x 240 resolution, a 2-megapixel to capture incriminating evidence of a crime in progress, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity to help one while the time away on a nearby Wi-Fi hotspot when on duty, GPS navigation to know where one is headed to if he/she is a rookie in that particular area of the ‘hood and quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz) GSM telephony to help keep the police in question connected with the rest of the force.

It seems that China’s Ministry of Public Security has a different taste compared to the masses with their apparent preference for Windows smartphones, since the AK007 will be powered by Windows Mobile 6.1. No idea whether the Chinese government will hold back further details concerning this handset for their police force or not, but it makes us wonder what else goes into the ruggedized case that measures measures 4.44″ x 2.67″ x 0.62″, while tipping the scales at 3.88 ounces. You will also find damage-resistant bumpers around its edges just in case of drops and knocks, and at least the commoner would know better than pick this up on the black market since it comes with the word “police” emblazoned on the front. No idea on how much equipping the entire police force in China with this handset will cost them…

MSI Wind U123 Netbook Series

msi-u123-full-lineup-colorsI heard a while ago that certain companies were cracking down on the use of the word “netbook”, but that hasn’t stopped MSI from announcing the U123 series.

This Wind series includes the U123, the U123H, and the U123T. All models feature a 10-inch screen, and yet compact enough to fit in an A4-sized bag. Inside is the latest Atom platform CPU (the 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280) with HDD capacity of up to 160GB and 2GB of DRAM.

Of course, what would these netbooks be without 802.11 b/g/n WiFi? The U123 series has it, and the U123H model has 3.5G mobile network cards. Other features include an integrated TV tuner that allows the user to watch and record TV programs by attaching an antenna.

Another feature is the EasyFace Manager, which is an embedded webcam that scans the face of the user and can recognize the eyes, cheekbones, jaw line, and the nose. The user can store ten facial images, and Easy Face can also be used to Log on.

So far, the official press release hasn’t said anything about the Wind series price or availability, but there is word that it will be available in colors such as pearl white, dolphin gray, midnight blue, and silver red.

SanDisk Sansa's Slot Radio

sandisk-slotradio-small-480x420The slotRadio is a simple device that comes ready to use with a microSD preloaded with 1,000 of hits selected from the Billboard charts themselves. The user can use from genres of Rock, Alternative, Country, R &B/Hip Hop, Contemporary, as well as Workout and Chillout.

If you don’t like any of the preloaded tunes, then you can just connect it to your computer and load up the tunes that you do like with drag and drop. So if you want an MP3 player, and don’t want to deal with the hassles of loading, or messing with iTunes, then you don’t have to. In short, this might be the perfect Portable Media Player (PMP) for those who are not in the iGeneration. That’s right, your mother or even your grandmother could use the SlotRadio.

This is the best part of the SanDisk SlotRadio: from out of the box, a new user can instantly immerse him or herself in a world of music. If he or she does not like what is currently playing, the user may cut to the next track, or to another genre. It even has a built-in FM tuner if you want to listen to more music.

This is the worst part of the SanDisk SlotRadio: it is too random. The device only has a forward advance button. So if I wanted to hear “Dream Police” by Cheap Trick again, I have to keep hitting the forward advance until it gets to it.

If this is the PMP for you, feel free to head over to the SlotRadio site for about $99. The company is even offering a Mini Travel Case ($14.99 value) for a limited time.

USB Apple Fan

usb-apple-fan-novelty-gadget-0

A fan is really just a fan. It blows on you, the only extra that is useful that could possibly be added to a fan is a heating option. Beyond that nothing extra is really needed. Yet, you do need your gadgets to match your style and even your interests. So if you need a fan to blend in with cheesy USB gadgets, this is the one. That or this could be for teachers and Apple/apple fans. Although the fan doesn’t come in very Apple-like colors, meaning, it doesn’t com in white.

This cheap flimsy fan in the shape of an apple is powered by a USB cord. If you want it blowing on you while you’re away from the computer, you’ll just need 4 AAA batteries on stand by to keep it powered up. Those batteries are of course, not included with the brightly colored fan. The fan comes in red, green and orange. As I said before, sadly there is no white version. It includes a USB cable with the fan upon purchase. You can pick it up for $16.99 from Gadget4all.

Little Sleep Machine is a budget friendly sleep aid

little-sleep-machine

When life gets too stressful, it seems like it always becomes far more difficult to sleep. You could pick up some pills to help you sleep at night, but that’s never a great alternative due to the side effects. Plus it can get expensive over time, especially for those without health insurance. According to the site, after only a few minutes it will begin to work you into a deep and restful sleep. It’d be a nice way to shut off your brain without investing in pricey pharmaceuticals.

It has a total of 3 hours of soothing music, that music is embedded with natural delta wave frequencies. These are frequencies that they claim your brain creates during the deepest stages of sleep. It comes with earbuds, but you could hook this up to some speakers. If you have a loved one that sleeps with you that doesn’t want to hear it, sleeping with earbuds can be very uncomfortable. I know I attempted it for a little while and always woke with sore ears. So what you might do is pick up some headphones designed for sleeping with. It runs on one AAA battery and for $34.95, I’d say this sleep aid is worth a shot.

Seat Belt Camera Starps

car_strap

Camera straps that come with the camera tend to be on the, well, lame side. They always have coarse material and the edges dig into your neck. Not to mention they display your camera brand name in shockingly bold lettering. So for those that use their camera a lot, it gets to the point when you have to seek out a camera strap that suits you a bit better. Well these straps made out of old seat belts look like a far better alternative than anything I’ve come across thus far.

The material itself is more of a silky smooth texture and you know it’s built to stand up to plenty of weight. Since they are older seat belts, the edges will be nice and smooth, so they probably won’t cut into your neck quite as badly. Plus you get the added perk of knowing that you’re giving an old item a new purpose. Thankfully these seat belts come in several different colors, such as Mercedes Gold, Porsche Purple, T-bird Teal and Dodge Silver. You can purchase one for $20 or two for $35. This is one product that is definitely going on my wish list

Microsoft SideWinder X3 gaming mouse

sidewinder-x3

Microsoft has done quite well for itself in the past where gaming peripherals are concerned, and their latest effort would be the SideWinder X3 gaming mouse. The SideWinder line has had a pretty decent history as all of them were able to hold their own against other established gaming mice including the range from Razer as well as Logitech. This time round, the SideWinder X3 shows the world that Microsoft has a heart for ordinary gamers who might be caught up in the current global economic downturn, hence catering to a budget-conscious crowd by merging gaming performance and versatile design at price that surely won’t turn you into a bankrupt overnight - we’re talking about $39.95 here, folks.

A major gripe that many people have about gaming mice would be some of the more expensive ones cater only to right handers, leaving left handers out in the cold or having to force themselves to adapt to a right handed mouse as there is no other alternative. The SideWinder X3 takes on an ambidextrous design, coming with eight different buttons to offer not only comfort but performance that users of SideWinder mice in the past have come to know and love. You will be able to take advantage of the 2,000 DPI laser tracking engine whenever you’re hunting down your latest foe in the game, but for less stressful environments such as at work, the SideWinder X3 is equally at home by lowering its DPI on-the-fly to 800 DPI or even 400 DPI, depending on the situation.

Other features of the SideWinder X3 include IntelliPoint software to create and assign macros , a wide, dented scroll wheel for more precise click movement, low-profile lateral side buttons for easy access during gaming and everyday computing, wide-glide feet for smooth handling and a light, balanced feel. Expect to see this puppy hit stores sometime next month.

Solid Metal Airsoft Pocket Pistol

airsoftSmall but potent - that’s how we would describe the Solid Metal Airsoft Pocket Pistol from ThinkGeek. Heck, it is tiny enough to be concealed in just about any pocket, and nice to know it is made out of solid metal alloy for a greater and more realistic feel whenever you handle it. All you need to do is whip it out for impromptu office battles whenever the boss is not around, but choose your targets carefully since you will only be able to shoot six times before you open yourself up to incoming fire during reloading. The shots are hard enough to sting and perhaps even cause bruises in some cases, so use this with extreme caution. We need not stress that this is not meant for little kids, and never, ever fire at somebody’s face. Each $9.99 purchase comes with 25 rounds of airsoft ammunition.

Travel Translator Device

travel-translatorGoing on a holiday can be fun, especially if you’re headed off to a foreign country where everything seems new to you in addition to having to adapt to a new culture and language. This fun feeling might not last too long as you start to get frustrated by your inability to communicate with the locals, especially for those who are particular about the kind of food they eat and how they like their steak done. Well, the Travel Translator will definitely come in handy as it is able to handle up to 12 languages.

It not only says the phrase you need out loud in the language of your choice, but will say it in your language as well as the translated one, so that you know exactly what you’re saying and can avoid any “excuse me but there seems to be a Belgian in my salad. Please contact a chiropractor” moments. This handy pocket sized gizmo holds over 8000 commonly used phrases in a whopping 12 languages, handily organised into eight categories, so the next time you’re desperately trying to buy some paracetamol after a few too many sambucas you’ll be able to zip in and out of the chemists without having to resort to an advanced series of mimes (with or without balloon animals).

We all know that learning a new language is no mean task, but we’re sure folks appreciate tourists who take the effort to connect with the local diaspora. The £39.99 Travel Translator ought to be something all English-speaking tourists not leave home without.

LaCie announces Rugged XL portable hard disk

ruggedxlLaCie is a name synonymous with portable hard drives, and to date they have released a fair number of such devices to cater for a myriad of users who range from the ordinary to those who demand the highest level of performance without compromising on protection. LaCie’s latest effort would be the orange-clad Rugged XL, offering a whopping 1TB of storage space which makes it the largest capacity hard drive in LaCie’s line of award-winning Rugged series. We like the color in which it comes in as it will add much needed character to any creative desktop. More on the LaCie Rugged XL hard drive right after the jump.

Users of the popular Rugged drive will find that the Rugged XL is based closely on its predecessors in the same line, offering protection of its interior with an aluminum casing while the signature orange rubber sleeve helps reduce the repercussions of unintentional shocks and drops. In addition, LaCie has also thrown in an internal bumper and heat dissipating features to further enable the LaCie Rugged XL to withstand the challenges and blunders that can occur on anyone’s desk (or outside of the office - you never know when Mr. Butterfingers might actually perform for all and sundry to see). The LaCie Rugged XL was developed to cater for speed-intensive applications as well as large-scale backups, emphasizing on its versatility in use by playing nice with both Windows and Mac computers.

Two key interfaces in today’s fast paced computing environment are supported - USB 2.0 for universal compatibility and the extreme speed of eSATA which is able to hit a whopping 3Gb/s for speedy data transfer. Beginners and seasoned veterans alike will find the LaCie Rugged XL a snap to use, since it comes bundled with a complete software range such as LaCie Setup Assistant for easy formatting and the Genie Backup Assistant software for Windows users and Intego Backup Assistant software for Mac users. If you’re interested in picking up the LaCie Rugged XL 1TB, you can do so for $159.99 via a variety of channels.

Medigenic PC Keyboard

medigenic-kb

Keyboards can be quite the filthy device if you happen to place it under a microscope - imagine checking out crumbs from last year’s pizza party at the office, which now house colonies of thriving bacteria and other micro-organisms. Which is why the conventional keyboard design isn’t too conducive for hospital environments where everything needs to be kept as sterile as possible. Enter the Medigenics Keyboard that takes a different route when it comes to design, doing away with the raised key system by replacing it with a flat keyboard design instead (complete with faux 3D key graphics for those who have yet to get used to it). Apparently, touch typists will be able to pick this up quickly with its low learning curve, and the whole idea behind this design is to make it to wipe with hospital-grade disinfectants at any time. Heck, it even comes with a warning light that will flash at preset intervals to remind you the keyboard is ready for another wipe. Hospital management committees can pick up the Medigenic keyboard for about $140 each.

USB Tulip Hub

usb-tulip-hubTiptoe through the tulips on your desk with the USB Tulip Hub. After all, how often do we come across a USB hub that actually appeals aesthetically? Far and few in between, I suspect. The USB Tulip Hub will retail for $22 a pop and certainly brightens up your work area with four individual tulip bulbs, where each of them hold a USB 2.0 port to connect to your myriad of devices. It will work with both Windows and Mac systems. If only the tulip bulbs came in colors apart from red - now that’d certainly make it more desirable.

Human Washing Machine

hmnbth2986034-thumb-500x377-16271This next machine is a real sign of the times. It is a washing machine that is designed to wash you instead of your laundry.

This human washing machine, known as the Avant Santelubain 999 allows the user to lie down and let the machine spray him or her with soap and water, along with infrared light for steam heat. It will even use aromatherapy and sound, then has an option of a seaweed wrap.

Say what? I’m not really certain how that seaweed wrap part works, but I have heard that the Human Washing Machine will sterilize itself after a wash is completed.

So what are we looking at here? A replacement for the shower and the bathtub? It looks like it takes up just as much space. It combines the spraying of the shower, and the relaxation of the tub. That might make a good slogan if anyone ever wants to market this thing.

I imagine that you could probably stick yourself in a washing machine and accomplish the same thing, but you don’t want be around for the spin cycle. Now, if only someone could invent a human washing machine that could also clean the clothes that you are wearing.

Cloud Magnetica Sofa

magnetically-levitating-cloud-sofa-thumb-550x400-16319Some of you might remember the article about the Hoverit Floating Chair, a lounger that can float on a cushion of air. I remember looking at that device and thinking: well, it would be fun to sit and hover, but the plexiglass mold doesn’t look too comfortable.

It is only natural that someone would take the Hoverit one step further with the Cloud sofa. Designer D.K. Wei’s magnetic floating sofa is designed for “ultra comfort and relaxation”.

The soft upper part can somehow remain airborne thanks to the force generated by the bottom base. I wonder how much the user can move around on the cushion before that upper part cannot be held aloft by the magnetic force.

The Cloud sofa was apparently an entry in a relaxation design contest, and it was good enough to win an honorable mention.

Sadly, this Cloud sofa still remains a concept now, but I would love to try it out. Granted, I wish there was some support for your back, as I would love to work on my laptop while resting on this.

However, I believe the whole point is to allow the user the experience of resting on a cloud. I wonder if it is as relaxing as it looks.

Work Lamp garage décor indoors

6a00d83451cbb069e20115701c1ea9970b-800wi

For those that enjoy a little industrial style décor, this light would be a great addition. Although it looks a bit like a light you’d see out in a workshop, they’ve added just enough class to it to make it work for indoors. Specifically adding finishes to it that you definitely wouldn’t see out in the workshop. Although the classic workshop lights would cost you far less than one of these pendant lights will. Cutting edge designs always cost a small fortune.

The light is actually said to be even more tough than the lights it was inspired by. They added some refined angles as well to give the piece a more interesting look. It comes in two different versions, there is the gold-plated and then the chrome-plated. I don’t imagine that your garage light comes with the option to be gold-plated. Although, as I said before, it’s still probably the cheaper option. This light will end up costing you $132.98.

Calima Washing Machine dries delicate clothing

electrolux-calima-washer

Going to get your dry cleaning clothes cleaned is always a pain. It costs extra, plus you have to remember to go and pick them up. There is the option to use things like Dryel, but after a while those inserts can cost quite a bit too. Although, the Dryel does at least prevent you from having to drive to get your clothes done. If you tend to use the dry cleaners for some of your delicate clothing that doesn’t necessarily require dry cleaning, this washer could help you out.

One other issue in the laundry room is finding places to hang clothing that needs hang dried, especially if your laundry room is more of a hallway than a room. Well with this takes care of both problems while still functioning as an actual washer. Calima is a washing machine with a tray to safely dry your hang dry clothing. The board is 60 x 60 cm, but can be extended an additional 32 cm for larger items. The integrated fan pushes warm air up through the board’s small holes which will dry off your delicate clothing. The washer itself also has various presets within such as Easy Ironing, Jeans, Delicate, Synthetic, Sportswear, Ecowash and several other options to choose from. The washer will retail for €700 or about $923.

SONIC Boom Alarm Clock

soniccompositeFor some odd reason, Sonic Alert, the makers of Sonic Boom alarm clocks series, have decided to target their new Sonic Boom alarm clock series to “dads and grads”. I suppose there is more than just a seasonal thing to this, because I believe that fathers and recent college/high school graduates have the most trouble getting up in the morning and need something extra loud.

For example, the Sonic Bomb (SBB400SS) is about as loud as a bomb at 113 decibels. It even has a display that looks like a timer on a movie bomb, complete with giant red numbers. Special color-coded wires not included.

The Sonic Shaker is designed for travelers, and comes with a pillow strap with clasp as well as a protective travel case. It also has a bed shaker, which is a standard feature for all alarm clocks. The bed shakers are these discs that can be put under any mattress, and they will vibrate like crazy when then alarm goes off.

Bed shakers are a standard feature for the two aforementioned alarm clocks, as well as the SBH400S model. The SBH400S, or Sonic Boom, is the sweetheart alarm that comes in hot pink in a heart shape, with a loud pulsating alarm.

You should be able to purchase these alarm clocks at the Sonic Alert Site. The Sonic Shaker is $29.95, the Sonic Bomb and Sonic Boom are $42.95 each.

iRiver and Speedo's Waterproof MP3 Player

lzr4-thumb-420x420-16394It appears that iRiver is flowing with all sorts of new ideas with the WAVE-HOME, and their Libre e-book reader. So what’s next for this company? Try a waterproof MP3 player.

The LZR Aquabeat Racer was designed with the help of Speedo, everyone’s favorite company for tight swimsuits. As you can see, the Aquabeat Racer affixes to the head, but it is far from wireless.

As for the memory, the LZR has about 2GB, which is enough for quite a few songs. Unfortunately, the battery life in the LZR is only good for 30 minutes per charge.

Yes, the LZR is waterproof, but I wouldn’t take it scuba-diving. It is only good for about ten feet, so this is probably a device you’ll want to use when you’re doing laps in the pool, just stay away from the diving board. It has nothing to do with the depth level; I’m just not certain this device would stay on your head after a dive. You know how you can literally lose your shorts after a taking a plunge? It looks like that could apply here with this headgear.

So, for all the swimmers that want their tunes, you’ll have to lay down $145 for this player. Unfortunately, it is only released in Japan

Samsung YP-P3 MP3 player in india

Samsung has launched another portable touchscreen multimedia player, the Samsung YP-P3 in India.

Samsung P3 MP3 player photo

The player will be available in two variants, one with 8 GB and the other with 16GB storage capacity, priced at Rs 11,900 and Rs 14,000, respectively. The Samsung YP-P3 has already been launched in Taiwan.

The Samsung YP-P3 player packs a 3-inch WQVGA-resolution 16:9 TFT-LCD touch screen and a 2.1+EDR Bluetooth along with spectacular features like 16:9 widescreen video player, audio player, ultra-portable photo album, FM radio. One can also use it as a voice recorder.

The Samsung YP-P3 has a Music Hot Touch Key, just below the touch screen to make it easy to use for customers. Hence one does not have to scroll through a long playlist to get to a particular song. Its 3-inch touch screen WQVGA TFT-LCD gets its power from Samsung’s EmoTure touch interface.

The Samsung YP-P3 player gives the user a fatabulous sound quality, as the player also uses Samsung’s latest DNSe 3.0 sound enhancement technology.

The DNSe technology helps improve the sound quality as it matches the sound to the tone originally intended by the audio producer.

A touch of your finger can get the player to do, what you want it to do. You can switch audio tracks and can fast forward by just holding down a digital button by just swiping your finger across the screen.

The Samsung YP-P3 also allows users to view wide screen video and photos at a 16:9 aspect ratio without the need for letterboxing.

“Whether it’s the P3’s sharp and bright 3-inch touch screen for video and photos or the advanced user interface, consumers will be guaranteed a more personal entertainment experience,” said R Zutshi, deputy managing director, Samsung India said.

In terms of looks, The Samsung YP-P3 is no slacker. It is elegantly sleek, 0.39 inches thin and is available in a graceful matte black and matte silver finishes.

And, best of all it does not weigh more than 96 grams

Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder Details

Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder has been launched, the first camcorder to feature video geotagging. This means the Sony HDR-TG5V GPS handycam can shoot videos and log the location of shooting, with built-in GPS receiver and GPS maps. The GPS camcorder comes for a price of $1,000, which, we think, is a tad expensive.

Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder

The body of the Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder is entirely titanium. The handycam can shoot high-definition HD video, with 1920X1080 resolution. The maximum shooting time with the highest quality and resolution is 100 minutes (nearly two hours) while with the lowest quality setting, you can record continuously for over five hours. The Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder is fitted with 16 GB of embedded flash memory, which can be expanded with a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo card. Gone are the days of memory storage with tapes, cassettes, DVDs and clumsy hard disks.

The most interesting of the Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder is definitely its geotagging option, which is part of the GPS system. The handycam has an embedded GPS receiver, which receives satellite signals as and when you shoot. There is also Navteq maps preloaded, which means that while you shoot, the location of shooting is automatically recorded. Later, the recorded videos can be played back on the Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder’s LCD display. Here, you can watch the pinned locations of video shooting overlaid on a map. Alternatively, you can download the videos to your computer, and with the help of the Sony Picture Motion Browser software, watch the videos with location tagging. The same GPS option is available for still photos as well.

sony-hdr-tg5vStill, we are not too sure how the GPS option will work in many closed places, like the inside of an apartment or an office. Even GPS phones with the same functionality find it difficult to receive the satellite signals within closed spaces. However, this wont be a problem when you’re travelling. And the Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder is built with the traveller in mind.
Another problem with GPS for videos was mentioned by CNET: That unlike photos, there is no metastandard for videos. So, to watch the location map of the video shoot, you will need to use the supplies Sony Picture Motion Browser software, or be content with watching it on the LCD screen of the Sony HDR-TG5V GPS handycam.

Made in the pistol-grip style, the Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder has a good-looking design. The LCD screen (size: 2.7 inches, diagonally) swivels 270 degrees for convenience in shooting and watching videos. The camera powers on when the LCD screen is opened and there is an automatic lens cover too.

The Sony HDR-TG5V GPS video camera is equipped with Carl Zeiss-Vario Tessar optics, which is standard in all Sony handycams. The videocam has a 1/5 inch Exmor CMOS sensor with ClearVid array as its imaging device. The handycam has a BIONZ image processor , with 2360000 gross pixels. The camera shoots still photos with a good 4 megapixel resolution. There is a also a flash to assist in low-light still photography with the TG5V.

The Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder comes with many of the fun features common to many other Sony handycams. For eg; the Face Detection feature automatically recognises up to 8 faces in a frame, and automatically adjust light and exposure to the skin tone, while keeping the rest of the frame intact, thereby enhancing and giving a natural look to faces.

The Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder also comes with Smile Shutter technology, which also made its debut in Sony camcorders earlier. In this, the Sony handycam recognises a smile even when the video shooting is on, and clicks pictures while the video recording is on. Even in the middle of shooting movies, you can capture still photos with 2.3 megapixel resolution on the Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder. After the video is recorded, the Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder can also play back an “ instant movie” with the video highlight option. The handycam selects the appropriate clips and puts the movie together, adding background music. Frills basically, but for the amateur videographer, these are good frills to have.

The Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar lens on the Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder has image stabilisation technology, which counterbalances camera shakes, so that even videos shot without a tripod come out cleaner. The 2.7” inch wide 16:9 touch panel Clear Photo LCD Plus display offers beautiful viewing clarity with high resolution — 211000 pixels.

The Sony HDR-TG5V GPS handycam has a zoom capability of 10X, which can extended to 120 X with a digital zoom. However, as we all know, digital zoom ruins resolution, though the company claims that this version of digital zoom in the HDR-TG5V camcorder is better than that in the previous camcorders.

Sound recording is good; actually, very good. The videocam’s Dolby Digital 2 channel stereo recording captures sounds from both left and right, while the Built-In Zoom Mic focuses audio recording on your subjects in sync with the camera’s zoom lens.

You can also shoot in slow motion. This feature on the Sony HDR-TG5V GPS camcorder allows you to shoot a 3 second clip which will stretch to 12 seconds while playing back. The slow motion recording is enabled by increasing the frames per second to click a large number of frames in the same time duration. Slow-motion shooting is helpful while watching a cricket ball bouncing off the bat, a bird in flight, or a horse mid-prance.

Sony Ericsson’s Idou Details

Sony Ericsson Idou, a concept-mobile phone is on cards. Idou is not the final name for the latest Sony Ericsson smartphone — it is just a concept name. However, what will be common to the concept phone and the real one is a 12 mega-pixel camera.

Sony Ericsson Idou 12 MP touchscreen concept

The high resolution camera will be the USP of Sony Ericsson’s Idou, to be retailed under a different name later this year. Sony Ericsson announced the concept mobile Idou just ahead of the GSM Mobile World Congress which starts in Barcelona today. Apart from the Idou, Sony Ericsson has also showcased several new models which will be part of its Walkman Series.

Sony is pegging itself as the communication-entertainment mobile phone brand with the launch of the Idou.

The intuitive touch screen (size: 3.2 inches) featured in the Sony Ericsson Idou comes with its 12.1 megapixel camera and a xenon flash. Sony claims that the Idou mobile has a true 16:9 design for its touchscreen, which translates to lifelike viewing of movies and video clips. Sony expects the Idou to be the best entertainment and camera phone in the world.

The Sony Ericsson Idou will have a Symbian operating system. Sony said that with this, users of the Idou will be able download, install and run thousands of programs designed for the Symbian platform on the Idou. Sony is launching its new mobile phones at Barcelona under the theme “Entertainment Unlimited.”

So far, the only mobile phone maker which had serious intentions about making a 12 MP camera phone was Samsung. With Sony Ericsson’s rather late entry into the high resolution mobile camera game, Samsung (which is yet to launch its 12 MP camera phone) has got a tough competitor. The Idou also comes with built-in photo editing functionality. Idou users will also be able to download content from Sony Ericsson’s PlayNow online store.

Sony Ericsson claims that the Idou is built to deliver audio and video with precise quality across hi-fi audio systems, laptops and computers. The touch screen on the Idou can display 16 million colors. The Idou also has 3G and Wi-fi connectivity options.

Sony has released some photos of the Idou smartphone, but details and technical specifications of the 12 megapixel camera phone are not out yet. The actual name (Idou is only a placeholder) of the phone will be released closer to the actual launch.

Yamaha Acoustic-digital Hybrid Piano

yamaha-hybrid1Yamaha is a noted name when it comes to music instruments (yes, they don’t just make kick as motorcycles, you know), and their latest efforts result in the new “AvantGrand” line, a piano that merges the mechanism of a grand piano with other electronics technologies. The AvantGrand N3 resembles a grand piano from the outside and will be unveiled to the world on the 15th of next month, while the N2 will arrive in Japan this July 15th, featuring a depth of 51.3cm. Departments within Yamaha that specialized in acoustic and electronic pianos jointly launched the project with the final goal of commercializing these products, and it sure as heck looks as though they’ve succeeded their goals and beyond.

Yamaha aims to simulate the touch of a grand piano to make the experience as close as possible, and they have done so by developing a special keyboard operation mechanism. Each key will be equipped with a couple of sensors that will be able to contactlessly detect a key stroke and its respective strength when producing sound. One of these sensors will be hooked to a key, whereas the other is placed on a component that will take over the hammer’s place in a standard grand piano.

Yamaha’s new hybrid pianos will feature pedals that can be used just like those found on a grand piano, where the mechanism has been tuned to perfection, making the players feel as though they were dancing their fingers across a grand piano instead of a hybrid. Sound produced on the AvantGrand range is based on the sound sampled from four locations, which are the left, right, center and rear, of a grand piano. Not only that, all of the high-, middle- and low-range speakers will come with a dedicated amplifier in order to avoid interference in each range while offering more subtle nuances in the sound.

SUNbeam Tiger Concept

sunbeam-tigerThere is just something about concepts that tease our minds - after all, it frees us from the shackles of convention as we are able to focus on functionality and form without thinking of whether is is physically possible to do so or not. One area where concepts will send your pulse racing would be the world of cars, especially speedy ones that get the adrenaline pumping. Here we have the 2025 Sunbeam Tiger concept that sends the old into the new world, one hundred years later to be exact. The 1925 Sunbeam Tiger was a masterpiece in its own right, being a supercharged V12 four-liter racing car that was driven by the legendary Sir Henry Segrave at 145 mph (233 km/h) nearly a century ago, making it the smallest-engined car ever to hold the world land speed record in the process. Fast forward through the time-space continuum and we have the Sunbeam Tiger electric sports car concept that was specially designed in memory of the 100th anniversary (1925-2025) of the Tiger’s land speed record win. You will find state of the art technology in the 2025 edition, where it will be powered by a Siemens 3 phase AC motor powering the rear wheels with a 26 kilowatt/hour lithium-titanate battery pack, tipping the scales at just 600kg (1,323lb) - extremely light to help it sprint away in fashionable speed.

You will find a tubular space frame chassis grace the Sunbeam Tiger concept, where it will be made completely from recycled aluminum to keep up with the green scheme of things, alongside a bunch of other components that will use environmentally friendly materials such as vegetable oil resin for its body panels, soy foam seats covered in biofabric, natural fiber brake pads, eco-paint and cornstarch tires. As for the roll bars, they have been directly incorporated into the seat frame, with the seat frame built into the chassis for improved safety as you tackle those nasty corners.

Performance-wise, this conceptual vehicle is tipped to achieve 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 160mph and a driving range of about 800 miles between charges. We wonder how much one has to pay for this if it were to be released by 2025.

The Balloon Lamp adds lighting

balloon_lamps

If you’ve always loved a birthday filled with balloons, then you might enjoy this twist to the common balloon. Instead of just hanging there for no real reason besides decoration, you could give them purpose. This balloon has an LED light placed inside of it. Giving a soft lighting effect perfect for backyard parties and other random events. Of course it’s entirely possible you could attempt to do something like this yourself at home, but at least with this lamp you receive a handy little hook on the end of the light.

The hook allows for it to be hung on just about anything. It doesn’t really say how the blowing up of the balloon works and how it stays secure. Plus the manual itself is in Japanese, but luckily there are some pictures to go with it. In order to keep the LED illuminated, it uses 2 lithium-ion watch batteries that will allow it to shine for 100 hours. That batteries are actually included this time. Although I’m not sure how much that will help people since one of these will cost you $63 from the Japan Trend Shop.

Ford F-150 Raptor Getting ready for Race

This Ford F-150 Raptor is getting ready for race in 2010. Lets say all the best.

It's not often that lifted trucks designed for off-roading are described as nimble, but that's exactly the word that comes to mind while riding shotgun in the 2010 Ford F-150 Raptor as it blasts through the desert outside of Borrego Springs, California. Racing through desert washes at 95 mph is more comfortable and confidence-inspiring than commuting to work in your average F-150.

The amazing part of this experience is that Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT), which developed the Raptor, doesn't have any real experience with off-road trucks. Sure the 1990s SVT Lightning was an incredible performance truck in its day, but it didn't even have four-wheel drive, let alone the ability to drive off-road. Tuning a truck for high performance is completely different once you leave the pavement.

Don't expect a high-output, Lightning-like engine in the Raptor. Ford's initial production run will make do with the familiar 5.4-liter Triton V-8 that produces 310 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque. There will be a 6.2-liter V-8 offered as a 2010.5 enhancement to the Raptor, but the extra power (about 400 hp and 400 lb-ft) isn't really needed. Instead of absolute power, this truck is all about a comfortable, confident ride both on pavement and off. We experienced everything from 50-plus-mph jumps off-road to 80-mph blasts down the highway, and the Raptor felt rock solid at all times.

Ultralong suspension travel (13.2 inches in the rear and 11.2 inches up front) doesn't produce much more body roll than in a standard F-150, but internal-bypass Fox Racing shocks really soak up the bumps. Raptors will be 7.7 inches wider than other F-150s and have a full 6.6 inches more track width to enhance high-speed stability. This is a big, wide truck - the Raptor has a mere 10 millimeters of clearance at some points on the assembly line, and it just barely fits on delivery trucks and train cars.

Sadly, the Raptor makes no sense outside of the desert racing world. With the collapse of the economy, questionable demand for performance vehicles, and political pressure to stop producing gas guzzlers, the Raptor seems like a terrible idea for the current market. But all of that worry fades away as you hit a trail at speed. The Raptor really needs to be experienced first-hand, because there's simply nothing else like it on the market - and there may never be again.

Coolest HeadPhones for Ladies

teaser_610x389

There’s some good news for the women who enjoy their tech gadgets to be good quality as well as stylish. As it turns out JBL and Roxy are teaming up to create a line of headphones specifically for women. From their teaser pic you can thankfully see that they aren’t just painting a thick coat of pink on and leaving it at that. From that one little picture, it appears that the headphones will most definitely be worth checking out. You won’t have to wait all that long to see them either, it appears that they’ll start unveiling these next month.

Of course there is no solid date on that, but it is apparent that they have hopes to release these in May. The collection will also include some earbuds for those that don’t like to wear the full-sized headphones all the time. Hopefully the prices aren’t too outrageous to go with these stylish electronics. Beyond the picture and that they’re teaming up to release these soon, there aren’t a whole lot of details. I suppose we’ll just have to impatiently wait for May to finally come around.

Sega Mega Drive Twin Player Console

sega-twin-consoleVideo gamers have this thing about retro games, and more often than not, they don’t mind going back to the good old days once in a while and indulge in a little bit of nostalgia, where pixelated graphics ruled the day and the gameplay experience coupled with an overactive imagination proved to work better than just flashy graphics. For those who missed out on Sega’s heydays as a home console manufacturer, here’s the Sega Mega Drive Twin Player Console that allows you to go through a bunch of 16-bit classics.

Simply plug it into the telly and you’re away. It might be smaller than the original but the Sega Mega Drive Twin Player Console is preloaded with 15 Sega licensed games, including Sonic and Knuckles, Alex Kidd, Golden Axe and many more. Better still you can bung in all those old Mega Drive and Genesis cartridges that have been languishing in the loft. Indeed, this nifty region-muncher doesn’t care where your games originated.

You will be able to bring home the Sega Mega Drive Twin Player Console for just £39.95 - a small price to pay for those glorious moments of yore without having to contend with the taint of downloading illegal ROMs.

Key Fob(spy) Video Camera/DVR

key-fob-camThis harmless looking key fob could be just the thing you’ve been on the lookout for, after discovering some lipstick marks on your man’s collar that do not belong to you because you don’t use Bobbi Brown’s Light Warm Beige semi-matte lipstick. Unfortunately, you lack the hard evidence to bring your man back to his senses, so having this Key Fob Video Camera/DVR with you could be the perfect fodder. After all, you can discreetly place this at a bedroom or living room (or where you suspect the tryst is going on), letting it record videos or snap images that are stored on its 2GB internal memory. Video quality stands at 355 x 288 resolution at 15fps, while images are 1.3 megapixels clear. You will get up to 150 minutes worth of video recording with this, and 2GB will also net you 4,000 still images. It will cost you a handsome £395 (including taxes) to bring this home though.

The Hydrokinetic Adjustable Wrench uses water power

ba14_hydrokinetic_adjustable_wrench_render

Adjustable wrenches are nothing new, they’ve been around for a while. You always have to adjust it down or up a bit first though. Sometimes you are off too and then you have to adjust some more. Well now there’s this hydrokinetic wrench that adjusts in a much more convenient way. The wrench has a hidden chamber of water that allows for it to adjust very easily.

To work it, just open the valve, put it on the chosen nut or bolt and then you have to push the gripper on the opposite end. By pushing that it will compress that liquid and adjust the wrench. Once it’s to the desired size, close the valve again so that it stays nice and secure. Then you can loosen or tighten nuts and bolts to your heart’s content. It’s debatable if this is all that much more convenient than a normal adjustable wrench. Still though, using hydrokinetics is a much cooler method. You can purchase it through Think Geek for $24.99.

Bridgestone color electronic paper

bridgestone

Over here at Coolest Gadgets, we’re extremely interested to see how technology is able to aid our everyday lives in various ways, where such aid could also become a point of contention when it comes to us humans getting lazier and lazier. After all, who could deny that the introduction of escalators, elevators and travellators at shopping malls and airports have greatly reduced our need to walk? What about Segways and the remote control which further reduce our need for physical activity? Well, one thing’s for sure, not all new technology turns us humans into fat, degenerate slobs who will eventually need a robot to take care of our personal needs. Bridgestone Corp. has come up with a color electronic paper (e-paper) device that also boasts pen input support. This device will bring together the “QR-LPD,” the company’s e-paper device using its proprietary electronic powder and granular material, with Wacom Co Ltd’s electromagnetic induction type pen input tablet and a color filter.

What’s so special about this, you ask? Well, for starters, Bridgestone has accelerated the screen refresh speed of the e-paper device to enable pen input, taking all of 0.8 seconds to refresh the display where its previous efforts of A4-sized e-paper device required around 10 to 15 seconds. That’s a whole world of improvement no matter how you look at it, and it will definitely bode well for new devices that require a fast refresh rate - something digital artists would love to enjoy.

Bridgestone has so far kept mum on further details of this technology, but it has quickened the refresh speed primarily by improving drive technologies. This will greatly enhance the device’s ability to follow the pen input and enabled it to display input texts and graphics smoothly, making it easy on your eyes in the process. The e-paper device will be powered by a passive matrix panel. No idea on when it will enter full commercial production though.
